I finally got a chance to find out why Gogol's work is called a masterpiece. There's the incredible descriptions of characters, the biting satire of Russian society, the quick way he is able to paint a complete scene in only a few sentences, and of course, the humor. This book caught me off guard with its humor, which kills nearly 200 years later.
